Design of Milling Fixture in Mass Production to Reduce operation Time and Set-up Time

Abstract

Fixture is work holding devices used to manufacture duplicate parts. In this article, we have focused on designing the machining fixture used for the major operations to be performed are drilling and milling. This machining fixture is designed according to the geometry of the component to be a simple and easily operate fixture with solutions. The machining fixture is made from an aluminum plate and machining vice.  Fixture material, cutting forces, tolerance, tooling, and other factors must all be taken into account while constructing a machining fixture. Jigs and fixtures are manufacturing equipment that is used to precisely produce interchangeable and identical parts. A quick and simple method of work positioning is required for accurate operations on the workpiece in mass production systems. In this work, two fixtures that will be used to manually clamp 200 components while drilling and profiling them on a VMC are designed. Each portion includes a 2D design and a 3D image of the assembled component and fixture using NX software, as well as essential information about the part and fixture. Without using a fixture takes a long time to unload and load a component during the machining process. They increase the amount of time needed for loading, setup, machining, and unloading. So, it is necessary to create a system that can increase efficiency, accuracy, and time savings. In the present work, the three fixtures are replaced with two fixtures to shorten production time while speeding up production. It was discovered that the setting could be decreased by employing a milling fixture that may boost production, make maintenance simple, and provide the necessary surface tolerance for a component to operate smoothly and finish well. By using this fixture, the overall production time is reduced by 51.2%, which significantly increases the output rate.
