Political Activity of Females in Public Life
Gender equality in political participation is a fundamental aspect of modern democratic governance. Under international standards, both men and women should have equal rights and opportunities to participate fully in all aspects and at all levels of political processes. In practice, however, it is often more challenging for women to access and exercise these rights. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the current levels of women’s political participation in Uzbekistan, to highlight the main challenges women face in accessing political structures, and to suggest strategies for overcoming these challenges.
The legal status of women has, no doubts, enhanced, but equality is far from being a reality. Women enjoy the same rights as men, nevertheless, they do not always have equal access to opportunities provided to men and they often cannot benefit from their rights.
