Role of Microfinance Institutions in Economic Empowerment of Women at Bengaluru Urban District

Abstract

Microfinance is emerging as an effective mechanism for providing financial support to the “Un -reached Poor” there by acting as a powerful instrument for poverty alleviation in the Indian economy. Microfinance Institutions have been successful in meeting financial needs of the rural poor women and strengthening the collective self-help capacities of the poor women, leading to their empowerment. Economic empowerment results in women’s ability to influence or make decision, increased self-confidence, better status and role in household etc. This paper attempts to know the role of micro finance in the economic empowerment of women in Bengaluru Rural District. From the study it was found that microfinance institutions play an important role in the economic empowerment of women.
