Abstract

In this paper a complementary switching multilevel inverter (CSMLI) controlled by wave shift multicarrier modulation technique which combines  in phase disposition level shift and phase shift modulation technique.  The problem of small phase displacement of phase voltage in phase shifting modulation technique and rotation of switching pattern in level shift modulation technique is overcome with this wave shift modulation technique. A half H bridge multilevel inverter with binary logic helps to achieve 2N level per leg. Compared with conventional pulse width modulation (PWM) schemes this wave shifting modulation technique generates low voltage total harmonic distortion. To demonstrate the effectiveness a prototype model is developed. The results obtained from hardware and simulation shows the effectiveness of the present technique. This type of MLI can be used for grid connected application, ASD drives, DVR for power quality improvement.
