Abstract

The necessity for wireless devices is increasing day by day for both personal and business applications. This also increases the need for research in designing and developing advanced communication devices, especially antennas. A novel micro strip antenna operating at ISM band for Wi-Fi application is presented. A low-cost fire-retardant substrate having a dielectric permittivity of 4.4 and thickness of 1.6 mm is utilized to model the antenna. A 50-ohm SMA connector is used to fed the antenna. The proposed antenna comprises of a modified circular patch structure made of copper material. The dimension of the radiation patch is taken as 40mm ×40 mm. The proposed model is designed and modelled using Ansys high frequency structure simulator and the antenna attains VSWR of lesser than 1.5, reflection Coefficient of -14.58 dB and bandwidth of 860 MHz in the region 2.4GHz to 2.486 GHz with a peak gain of 5.78 dBi. The proposed antenna is well suitable for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi applications.
