PARALYMPICS: AN OPEN PLATFORM WITH SCOPE FOR DISABILITIES AND TECHNOLOGIES

Abstract

In sports the contribution of technology is always a hot topic of discussion, but when it comes about the Paralympics it is even more contradictory because here is a visible and prominent connection existing between sports persons and assistive devices. The main objective of this paper is to identify and describe the latest technological developments in Paralympic games. Individuals with impairments generally depend on various assistive devices for the activities of their daily living as well as in competing for sports. Lots of controversies are associated with technological developments in sports because there is a great impact of these technological modifications on the type of Paralympic games and on the technique of playing these games. The uses of these assistive aids can be to a high extent or can be very low. Over the last few decades the technologies at the Paralympic games had helped a lot in specializing the games of an individual athlete.
