Abstract

Coldformedsteelareproductsmadebyrollingorpressing steel at relatively low cost in comparison with hot rolled section. They are manufactured at room temperature or at very low temperature.Cold-formedsteelgoodsarecreatedbytheworkingof steelbillet, bar, orsheetusing stamping, rollingorpressestodeform it into a usable products and sections. In the construction industry bothstructuralandnonstructuralelementsarecreatedbylightgauge sections. The most common shapes for cold formed steel sections are channel section, I section, Z section, tubular and hat sections. Different types of section have different failure pattern on the applicationofload.HollowboxsectioncoupledIsectionisaspecial type of cold formed section. The section is designed to withstand more load bearing capacity in comparison with box and I section. This coupled section is tested for its flexural and compressive behaviour (ie., as both beam and column). The failure pattern and the ultimate load is determined for the section by loading frame. In thisstudythedeflectionandbucklingofthesectionisanalysedand experimentations are done. A comparative study is made based on analytical, experimental and theoreticalresults.
