Abstract

A reconfigurable multiband antenna for 4G and 5G applications is proposed in this paper. The use of a PIN diode allows for frequency reconfiguration. The structure is made up of a single C-shaped rectangular patch that is filled with a T-shaped patch that is fed by microstrip lines. The structure employs a PIN diode, which produces two different frequencies for potential applications: 2.3 GHz to 2.4 GHz for fourth-generation mobile applications and 3.3 GHz to 3.4 GHz for fifth-generation lower band applications, as well as improving efficiency in terms of radiation pattern, return loss, reflection coefficient, and directivity. The proposed structure is built, and the measured effects match those predicted by the simulation.
