Abstract

This article presents a wearable antenna fabricated on easy available Jeans textile material of low permittivity of 1.7. Theantenna size and its performance have been optimized by the introduction of Defected Ground Structure. The dimensions of the proposed antennaare 0.23λ0 × 0.34λ0× 0.019λ0. To maintain the simplicity of the structure, rectangular patch has been used in the design. Microstrip line feeding is used here to excite the proposed structure. It has been shown from the simulated results that overall 26.5% reduction in size has been achieved due to the introduction of defected ground. The proposed structure resonates at 5.8 GHz of ISM frequency bands.Peak gain 4.51dB has been achieved at 5.8GHz. The proposed antenna is suitable for wearable devices for on-body communication.
