Abstract

This paper aims to explore the application of the mental model used in product innovation design. Through indepth user interviews, researchers analyzed users’ cognition, feeling and expectation of the product, summarized mental data of product features and experience elements. Then they could use design visualization methods, such as user experience map, user persona, mood board, vision in product design, to organize the pain points and design opportunity points, which could help designers to collaborate user requirements and product design. The paper summarizes the use method and process of a mental model in product innovation design, then combines it with the design practice of facial skin detector, researchers verified the effectiveness of this method. The acquisition of a mental model could help designers find out users' future conception and expectation of products, carry out purposeful user research and establish design schemes matching with users' expectations, and then improve user experience.
