The parameters of patients' vital signs can be collected using WMSNs via sensor nodes placed on their bodies and retrieved by healthcare practitioners via a mobile device. In WMSNs, securing communication has become a critical concern due to wireless communication. Since vital sign parameters are sensitive to the patients' health status and must not be exposed to anybody except healthcare professionals, patient privacy becomes another key concern for WMSNs applications. As a result, the most simple and generally used technique for addressing WMSN security and privacy problems is user authentication with anonymity attribute. In this study, we extended our work in [41] by looking at an important healthcare application that uses WMSNs and a user authentication mechanism. A lightweight multifactor authentication scheme is proposed that uses a health professional's smart card, password, and biometrics.Using NS-2 simulation, we observe that our system is secure and guards against many well-known WMSN attacks. Furthermore, our system is better placed in terms of computation and communication costs compared to other contemporary schemes. Our model is particularly ideal, especially in today's medical scenario with a scarcity of healthcare experts, its high security, added functionality features, and overall efficiency.
