Abstract

The polyester resin matrix-based polymer ZnO nanocomposites and pure polyester sheet were synthesized by the solution casting method. The crystalline structure of the nanoparticles was investigated using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed for assessing purity and identifying the base polymer composition, additives, and organic contaminants. The results showed a slight shift in absorption bands for ZnO added polyester system. The thermal properties were analyzed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), clearly indicating the formation of the high cross-linked molecular structure of polyester or increased free volume fractions in the polymer nanocomposites. Tensile and flexural strength performed using a mechanical analyzer showed the possibility of agglomeration of nanoparticles owing to strong interaction with resin. Dielectric studies had been used to determine the relative permittivity and the loss of tangents (tan δ). The hydrophobic character of the pure and ZnO polyester nanocomposite had been analyzed.
