Role of National Parties in the State of Manipur
Abstract
India is known to be the largest democracy in the world because of its direct representation in the legislative process. Manipur, a small state which lies in the North-Eastern part of India is now a part of this largest democracy. The once princely independent State is now under the regime of National political Parties. Geographically, being in a frontier does implicate an idea of whether the national party could foresee the local issues and conditions of the state. There is a mandate for inquiry if the roles and ideologies of the national parties are relevant to that of the cultures and traditions of the state. The project highlights whether there is a need for the so- called regional parties of the state and whether the nation-building process could lead even in the frontier.
