Abstract

Existing buildings are of great importance because of their clear negative impacts on the environment through their consumption of large amounts of energy. Construction technology has recently witnessed several leaps in the development of building materials, which emphasizes the call for sustainable construction, due to the negative effects that are happening today on the environmental system and the lack of realization Sustainability of these buildings At the local level (Egypt) the state is taking serious steps to direct the construction industry towards a more sustainable path, but at the same time we find many research studies that indicated the importance of the sustainability of these buildings without paying attention to the role of sustainable and locally available materials in developing existing buildings and reducing their consumption Therefore, the problem of research was the inability of our existing architectural facility to perform the role entrusted to it in achieving the concepts of full sustainability, and that many of the sustainable and locally available materials that contribute to raising the environmental efficiency of the building in Egypt are not exploited.

The main objective of the study is to try to understand the role of materials in achieving the sustainability of existing buildings and reducing existing buildings for their energy consumption and environmental compatibility in proportion to the existing situation.
