Performance Based Seismic Analysis of R C 5 2D Frame Structure Using Varied Properties of Friction Pendulum Isolators by HHT-Α Time Integration Technique
Abstract
A two dimensional five story R C structure frame base isolation system has been analyzed using time history analysis. The base isolation system is implemented using single friction pendulum (FPS) bearings. Two friction pendulums sets are used with different values of parameters for the same building design. At the end two results obtained are compared. Analysis was carried out with five different far field time histories taken from NGA PEER data base. Finite element based commercial software SAP 2000 version 18 was used to find out inter story drift, base shear of the proposed structure, top story displacement and plastic hinge deformations according to FEMA 356.Also total energy as well as average energy per cycle of joints is calculated for some of the time histories. The effect of base isolation is studiedfor both set of friction pendulums. Results are discussed at the end of the analysis.
