Experimental and Analytical Study on 2024 & 7075 Aluminium Alloy Sheets by Welded with Friction Stir Process
Abstract
This work is an attempt to study the experimental and analytical values of dissimilar 2024 & 7075 sheets of aluminium that are joined by the process of friction stir welding (FSW). The two sheets, which are aligned in perpendicular rolling directions, are welded successfully and the sheets that are welded are tested under tension at normal room temperature so as to analyze the mechanical characteristic with reference to the parent materials. The dimensions of the selected plates of AA 2024 & 7075 aluminium are 100x100x6 mm. Both the experimental and analytical analysis were carried out regarding the selected parameters such as percentage elongation, tensile strength, hardness and flexural strength. The test results indicated that the selected parameters are greatly influenced by the FSW process.
