Foreign Direct Investment in Indian Marketing Zone: Extortions and Opportunities

  • Krishan Kumar

Abstract

FDI is important for a country's long-term development because it improves the domestic economy's competitiveness by transferring capital, upgrading technology, developing managerial skills and capabilities in various sectors, strengthening infrastructure, increasing productivity, and creating new job opportunities. Due to rising purchasing power, expanding consumerism, and brand proliferation, India is being eyed by several foreign countries as a potential investment destination. Allowing FDI into the retail sector benefits consumers and suppliers by improving supply chain technologies, eliminating the exploitative middleman structure, and providing informational externalities to local players.Consumers benefit from competition because it provides them with more options and greater quality at lower rates. Concerns have been made by the opposition concerning job losses, the promotion of unhealthy rivalry among organized domestic retailers, and the distorting of urban cultural development. However, the Indian government must take prompt and prudent measures to protect the health of the Indian retail industry and to maintain stability in the face of competition from global giants.
