Abstract

This article is written to discuss conceptual and procedural knowledge in mathematics education. In mathematics education, conceptual knowledge is needed to understand a basic concept and learn the next concept. Meanwhile, in solving mathematical problems, procedural knowledge is needed to demonstrate the completion steps. So through this article the author will discuss the relationship between conceptual knowledge and procedural knowledge in mathematics education. Based on the theories and models that have been used in previous research, the author will discuss the importance of conceptual and procedural knowledge in mathematics education. Disclosure of problems, past studies and the importance of conceptual and procedural knowledge is expected to encourage more detailed studies to improve student performance in mathematics education.
