Comparative Assessment of Conventional and Modern Retrofitting Methods for Seismic Analysis of a Steel Diagrid Structure using SAP2000

Abstract

Today, new techniques of construction, as well as new aspects of design, come from day today. In whichdiagrid structures are one of the advancements in the Ighhtall structures. The diagonal members are produced as a framework formed by metals, wooden or concrete beams used to construct buildings and roofs. These are referred to as a diagrid structural system. It consists of inclined columns on the exterior surface of the building. These structures generally do not require any core because lateral shear can be carried by the inclined columns present on the periphery of the building. It is the new trending topic in structural engineering for factors of aesthetic appearance, structural stability, and economic considerations.Seismic analysis of G+20 storied steel diagrid structure of dimensions 18.52 m X 18.52 m with the conventional retrofitting methods(like introducing shear wall or bracings between the two columns) to the Modern retrofitting methods (like base isolation techniques and different types ofdampers)are done using the Sap2000v.23.2.0 software. This study compared the performance of linear response spectrum &time history analysis in both the cases and found the baseshear, story drift, and relative displacements. Bhuj earthquake time history data is used for the time history analysis, and for the response spectrum analysis, IS 1893 -2016 codal provisions are used.
