Boyang Mario as Reference of Mandar Traditional House in Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi

Abstract

This study aims to determine the typology of Boyang Mario in the area of ​​the traditional house of Sao Mario Batu-batu Soppeng, as one of the products of traditional Mandar architecture which was built far from Mandar. The research location, in the area of ​​the Sao Mario Batu-batu Soppeng traditional houses, with survey and observation methods. The research variables are: architectural typology, which consists of: a) Layout, b) Spatial planning, c) Shape, Structure and Construction, d) Stairs, and e) Decoration. Research data is the result of direct observation and documentation in the field. The data analysis technique was carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner, with the following steps: 1) Data collection, 2) Data display/presentation, 3) Data reduction, and 4) Conclusion drawing and verification. The results showed that: 1) The layout of Boyang Mario, facing north and oriented to the Soppeng – Sidrap axis road, although not facing east, but still in accordance with customary provisions, 2) Spatial planning, still following the spatial pattern of Boyang adaq, but there are more rooms, and there is an influence of modern life by placing bathrooms/WC in several bedrooms, 3) Shape, structure and construction, in the form of a house on stilts, with structural materials made of wood according to traditional Mandar houses in general 4) Stairs are not in two layers , or does not follow the shape of the ladder of Boyang adaq Mandar in general, 5) Decorative variety, almost all types of decoration in Boyang adaq Mandar are in Boyang Mario, except for the Manu'-manu' (dove) decoration, and jasmine flowers that spread not found in Boyang Mario.
