Misuse of Social Media during Global Pandemic: A Challenge for Human Healthcare

Abstract

Technology has changed everything. People are using technological innovation in all the sectors including health, education, business, and others. Information &Communication Technology includes digital media, social media, telecommunications, computing, and the internet. Social media has become very popular and convenient digital media used by people. When WHO declared the COVID-19 as an epidemic in March 2020, then people started using digital channels as well as social media to get updated information.But sometimes, information dissemination by social media is proved as fake, misleading, distorted, and destructive. Many fake stories that lead to tension, mental stress, and misbelief were created and shared by social media. This distorted and misleading information on different social media like Facebook and Twitter posed a threat to human healthcare. The present research paper aims to find out the challenges for human healthcare posed by social media during the global pandemic. The researcher has used secondary research to analyze the health information spread by social media.
