Abstract

Fault analysis is a critical tool for determining short-circuits currents caused by various fault phenomena, estimating fault locations, and identifying under-rated equipment in electric power systems. Distribution sources have been highly penetrated and demand the increase of network reliability and decrease the financial penalties. This lead to the invention of the smart distribution strategy automation application. One of the most important distribution automation applications is fault location, classification, isolation, and service restoration that can suggestively decrease outage time for consumers. This study deals with fault location, classification, isolation, and service restoration algorithm by using Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) protocol. An artificial Neural Network-based classification algorithm will be used for fault classification.  The proposed algorithm helps in improving the reliability of utility delivered power in power distribution systems by localizing the outages.
