An Exploratory Study on Female Passengers Preference towards Digital Cab Services in Coimbatore City, Tamilnadu

Abstract

Increase in commercial and industrial activities, increase in household income, availability of motorized vehicles and improvement in road transport infrastructure has immensely increased the road based passenger mobility. Technological development has brought tremendous improvements in passenger transportation. The advent of digital cab services is one such recent development. Cabs have made the travelling purpose easy and comfortable especially for the females and elderly persons. The usage of transport services is not neutral to male and female passengers. The choice of transport service by female passengers is determined by a number of complex issues. This research paper focuses on the female passengers’ preference towards usage of digital cab services in Coimbatore city. The study was done with a sample of 150passengers using convenient sampling technique to identify the influencing factors, overall satisfaction and problems faced by the female passengers while using digital cab services. The collected data was analyzed using percentage analysis, weighted ranking analysis, ANOVA and t-test. The results revealed that live location tracking was the most influencing factor to prefer digital cab services by female passengers in the study area and most of the passengers were satisfied in using digital cab services. High cancellation charges, safety and privacy concerns (including information security) were found to be the main problems in using digital cab services.
