Abstract

In our project we took two petrol engines of capacity 150 cc and 180 cc and attached pre-heating setup to both engines according to the requirements. One end of the pre-heating set up is connected to exhaust gas outlet and the other end is coiled around the air line before entering carburetor. The humidity in the atmospheric air affects the vaporization of petrol in the carburetor and hence by preheating the inlet to the carburetor, vaporization can be easy and in turn complete combustion can be achieved. We fabricated an experimental set up in which brake dynamometer is connected to crank shaft and pre-heating set up is connected to inlet airline. The performance characteristics like brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), brake thermal efficiency for the modified engines are calculated and then compared with normal engine. The results are thus analyzed accordingly.
