A Study on Employee Retention Strategies in Tourism Industry in South Tamil Nadu

Abstract

Employee retention is the top most priority for Indian tourism industry to enhance its performance and competitiveness and it has to absorb and retain its employees for the very existence and success in long run through adoption of various employee retention strategies. The findings elucidate that better salary and benefits, rewards and recognition, career growth, good physical working condition, flexible working hours, job security and training are employee retention strategies adopted by tourism industry. Significant difference exits amongst employee retention strategies in tourism industry and demographics of employees. The employee retention strategies in tourism industry is negatively, significantly and moderately related with intention to leave of employees. Better salary and benefits, rewards and recognition, good physical working condition and career growth are positively and significantly influencing satisfaction of employees in tourism industry. Hence, the tourism industry should adopt efficient welfare programmes for their employees and it must provide adequate and effective work life balance to their employees. Further, the tourism industry should encourage professional relationship among employees.
