Leadership Styles among the Teachers of Arts and Science Colleges in Kanyakumari District

Abstract

This research focusses on nine most prevalent leadership styles used by teachers working in Arts and Science Colleges, Kanyakumari.(i) Transformational Leadership, (ii) Transactional Leadership, (iii) Servant Leadership, (iv) Autocratic Leadership, (v) Laissez-faire, (vi) Democratic Leadership, (vii) Bureaucratic Leadership, (viii) Charismatic Leadership, and (ix) Situational Leadership are the nine types of leadership. The researcher used a questionnaire to obtain 150 samples under simple random sampling method. SPSS 20 and R were used to analyse the data. The finding shows that the leadership styles of male respondents are more in Transformational style, Transactional style, Democratic style, Charismatic style, and Situational style, with less emphasis on Autocratic and Bureaucratic styles. Female responders' leadership styles are more Democratic and Situational, and their leadership is less Autocratic and Bureaucratic. The findings of this study could be very useful to the educational leaders who want to align their leadership style to be more efficient amidst the youth of today.
