Impact of Covid-19 on the Construction Sector

Abstract

The construction business is one of the most important industries in the world for national growth. It is a human-driven sector with a huge number of individuals working in it. Most construction sites in the COVID-19 epidemic have been halted due to concerns about Coronavirus infection. The projects are already behind schedule in terms of completion and handover. There is a considerable risk of COVID-19 exposure in the building and construction business, where personnel work closely together. Developers are concerned not only about cost growth, but also about the proliferation of COVID-19 in projects.During this outbreak, all employers and builders must implement control measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 and ensure a safe working environment for their employees. The influence of viruses in the construction sector related with risk assessment is addressed in this study, and the safety measures for workers during and after a pandemic are discussed in detail.In this work, an online survey has been conducted from various experts, employers and the workers working on a construction site to analyze the impact of pandemic in detail. Collected data has been analyzed using factor analysis. Factors are extracted using principal component analysis. It has been found out from the analysis that there are 5 core factors such as Organization Economy, Site Activities, Employment, Material Procurement and Recruitment process which indicates that these are the sectors that has been affected severely due to the pandemic.
