Abstract

In this study, the S-Glass lamina and carbon fiber lamina-based hybrid composite combination is studied with a fixed overall thickness and with an elliptical cutout at the centre. By altering the aspect ratio and the orientation of the elliptical cutout, the study was conducted with a fixed no of laminas in the hybrid laminate. The influence of the aspect ratio of the elliptical cutout on tensile and compressive stress distributions was examined when the hybrid laminate was subjected to thermomechanical loading conditions. FEM approach was used to perform the analysis. It was also discovered that, following an aspect ratio of 1.25, the stress values reaming more or less constant in most cases. It can also be determined that if we are primarily concerned with the S1 and S2 stress at the bottom and top layers, an aspect ratio of 1 is the better choice. However, if a different number is required due to design reasons, the aspect ratio of 1.25 is an acceptable option.
