Abstract

The analysis of multitemporal remote sensing images to detect landcover transitions plays an importantrole in many applications such as assessment of damaged areas, analysis of urbanexpansion, study on shifting cultivation etc. The purpose of this study isto detect landcovertransitions between two remotesensing images acquired at different times andanalyze the potential of postclassification change detection method. The case study has been conducted in the area of Nagercoil region of Kanyakumari district, Tamilnadu,India.Urban growthmonitoring has become a major application of remote sensing data.Change detection analysisshows that built-up area has been increased from 32.5% to 50.5% in the study area.
