Abstract

In the last two decades, there have been significant advancements in the production of biodegradable polymeric materials that are used in biomedical applications in recent years. The candidates most promising to develop therapeutic equipment such as provisional protheses, three-dimensional porous structures as fabric engineering scaffolds, and controlled and sustained release vehicles for medicines are biodegradable polymeric biomaterials. In order to provide effective therapy, each applications involves the development of materials with particular physical, chemical, biological, biomechanical and degrading properties. A wide range of natural and synthetic polymers, which can be degraded by hydrogenation or enzyme degradation in biomedical applications, are therefore being investigated. The results of this study show that vitamin B2 formulation, as a drug with biodegradable polymers, poly-lactic glycolic acid (PLGA), is injectable in controlled release to increase bioavailability in the patients with poor vitamin B2 uptake from droops due to a reduction in the intrinsic factor responsible for the absorption. Five different formulations of polymer implants are prepared and tested in a 20-gram batch size. The dried and completed product implant weight 1 g contains 5 mg vitamin B2 and has been characterized by drug content, polymer molecular weight, microparticle size, moisture content and residual resolver.  In addition, the in vitro release study at blood simulated solution was also performed and samples were analyzed throughout 40 day of in vitro release study. The release of B2 was started at 21- 24 days continuing to 40 days. Approximately, 85.3% of the active ingredient (B2) was released throughout 40 days.
