Development of Wellness Tourism Routes by Herbal and Local Wisdom in Maha Sarakham Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the situation of wellness tourism by herbal and local wisdom of Maha Sarakham province; 2) to survey tourism behavior and needs for wellness tourism by herbal and local wisdom among tourists in Maha Sarakham province and 3) to create a wellness tourism route by herbal and local wisdom of Maha Sarakham province. The population and sample were 400 tourists in Maha Sarakham province, 7 representatives from government agencies, and 12 communities and tourist attraction representatives respectively. The quantitative research instruments were questionnaires, and interview forms were used as qualitative research instruments. The statistical method used in this research was descriptive statistics. The research results were as follows.

The situation of wellness tourism by herbal and local wisdom of Maha Sarakham province was not well-known and had not been apparently promoted as expected. In addition, there were no other government agencies to be responsible for the main host in taking care of wellness tourism, although the province had a wide variety of herbal medicine potential, both in planting and processing. In terms of tourists' needs for wellness tourism by herbal and local wisdom in Maha Sarakham province in overall aspects were at the moderate level ( = 3.36), tourists with different sex, age, occupation, and income had needs for wellness tourism by herbal and local wisdom in Maha Sarakham province at the same level. In this research, there was a wellness tourism route by herbal and local wisdom, which was divided into 6 districts of each tourist route that effectively linked wellness tourism activities and other famous tourist attractions in the vicinity.
