Abstract

The route selection in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) can be either on-demand or table-driven. Several protocols have been proposed for identifying the optimal path to a destination from a source node based on Quality-of-Service (QoS) characteristics [1] such aslink capacity, path availability period, end-to-end delay, etc. None of these approaches, however, improve overall network performance. It is important to choose a route to optimize the overall network performancein such a way so that the route from source node to destination should be loaded lightly, residual energyandavailable bandwidth should also be high.Since energy is a bottleneck for MANET’s, the residual energy plays a major role inidentifying the network lifetime. We proposed a routing technique that considers various Quality of Serviceroute parameters such as load, route capacity i.e., bandwidth and residual energy of a route from source node to destination.Under this perspective, we exploit the potential of fuzzy-logic system to evaluate the stability of the paths. A route maintenance mechanism based on fuzzy logic technique is used to handle the frequent breakdown of path either because of residual energy which is less than the threshold defined or due to high mobility of nodes. The proposed technique is validated upon prototype model. Outcomes shown are exciting and outperforming than the existing approaches.
