Abstract

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 7 aims to achieve Affordable and Clean Energy for all member states. Today, recent technological advances, have made solar power a promising source of clean energy. However worldwide the growth of the solar market is not uniform across all segments. Though the Utility, and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) segments are growing rapidly, the residential segment is showing a sluggish growth. Further the Covid-19 pandemic has led to a global slowdown and added to the challenges. Yet the solar markets have displayed resilience in defying negative growth projections. This paper thus attempts to look at the growth of the global solar energy market and the challenges that it faces. The paper finally looks at the prospects and opportunities that lie ahead for this market in the future.
