Abstract

In the previous literature reports, it was found that in the Reinforced Concrete Structures, long beams were not generally employed. Flexural response exhibited by these slender RC beams were unlike that of standard Concrete beams.Moderately slender beams were vulnerable to slenderness effects and experience flexural mode of failure at moment values smaller than the flexural strength corresponding to the material fracture. This work is aimed at numerically validating the theoretical formulae proposed in the previously reported studies on long beams for predicting the behavior of highly slender and moderately slender RC beams. In this report, the effect of slenderness on the flexural response of moderately to highly slender RC beams has been studied by non-linear finite element (FE) analysis.Eight RC slender beams were modeled in ATENAsoftware, employing different dimensions, support conditions and reinforcement ratios, and furtheranalyzing with incremental loading pattern. Moreover, eight Load Deflection curves for the test beams were plotted using the ATENA softwareoutput filesand was found to be in cognizance with the experimental data.Further, it showed similar mode of failure for the moderately slender and highly slender beams,as demonstrated in the previous reports. Finally, the theoretical formulae proposed in the reported workswere validated numerically through ATENA software, in line with the experimental test results.
