Toxic Positivity and Mental Health – It is ok to Not Be ok

Abstract

Purpose –The purpose of this paper is to find out the level of stress among younger generation and the level of awareness and acceptance of the same. An effort is made to find out  how stress effects the mental health of women versus men and  if age has effect on the level of stress and mental health.  The paper also prepares a model to calculate the level of stress and to advise the respondent on whether they need counselling or clinical help.

Design/methodology/approach – The paper is based on primary data collected from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. The model was prepared and transformed by using Standard-Scalar and Min-Max-Scalar  to standardize the dataset. a ridge regression model with grid search cv was used as it gives the most accurate results.

Practical implications – The study aims to study the rise in stress among youngster and the awareness and acceptance of the same.  The idea is to advise them that it is OK to face stress and mental health is important and speaking about the same and seeking help on the same is essential.  The aim was to tell the youngsters through the model that there are many like them who are stressed and have passed into depression.  The acceptance that mental health issues are common  and it is not a disease, it can he improved by simple acts like taking to some one or seeking professional help.

Originality/value – There a several studies on mental health and the need to take it seriously but the aim of this paper is to let youngsters know that they have mental health issues and to get them to accept the reality.  The aim was also to let the youngsters know that mental health issues are very common and can be dealt with very easily, if accepted and that there is nothing to be ashamed of or to be embarrassed about the same. There should be no social stigma attached to the same
