The Women of Brewster Place: A Saga of Women Empowerment

Abstract

Gloria Naylor has raised the issue of woman empowerment through her vivid novels which articulates women's extreme survival in male dominated society mix-up with black and white people. The issue is demanding when the American social infrastructure in late 1950's unevenly balanced due to the less contribution of black women who have been neglected since long period. The main objective of the present research work is to  find out the vitality of empowerment of women characters in Gloria Naylor's novel  The women of Brewster Place.  The protagonist Mattie started her journey amidst of all odds; her ultimate target from self empowerment shifted to the empowerment to male member of the black society.
