A Study of Enhancing Need Assessment for Student to Digital Citizenship for Primary School Under the Office of Basic Education Commission

Abstract

The objectives of this research 1) to study the composition and indicators of digital citizenship among elementary school students, under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. 2) To study the current and desirable conditions for digital citizenship of primary school students, under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. 3) To study the necessary needs of enhancing digital citizenship of primary school students, under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. The group of informants in the research consisted of 736 school directors and elementary school teachers under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. The research instrument was a questionnaire on current and desirable conditions, digital citizenship of elementary school students under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. The data were analyzed using basic statistics such as mean, percentage, standard deviation, and need analysis (PNI Modified). The results showed that;

  1. The current state of digital citizenship of primary school students under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in all aspects It's at a very high level. The mean in descending order was Ethical and law-abiding use of digital technology with a mean of 4.35 (S.D.=0.69). Good interaction and dealing with technological Digital threats averaged 4.29 (S.D.=0.70). Knowledge of digital technology, learning, transferring, and using digital technology creatively had a mean was 4.07 (S.D.= 0.63). and self-security and social responsibility had a mean of 4.02 (S.D.=0.67).
  2. The study of the desirable condition of digital citizenship of primary school students under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in all aspects was at the highest level. The mean in descending order was Knowledge of digital technology, learning, transferring, and using digital technology creatively with a mean of 4.91 (S.D.=0.27). Ethical and law-abiding use of digital technology had an average of 4.89 (S.D.=0.31). Good interaction and dealing with technological Digital threats averaged 4.87 (S.D.=0.36). And self-security and social responsibility, an average of 4.79 (S.D.=0.40).
  3. The essential needs of digital citizenship of elementary school students under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. The index values ​​are determined from the Modified Priority Needs Index (PNI Modified) values ​​as follows; The digital citizenship of primary school students was found to prioritize the essential needs of the current state and the desirable conditions for digital citizenship of primary school students. Under the Office of the Basic Education Commission, priorities are as follows: The 1st: Knowledge of digital technology, learning, transferring, and using digital technology creatively (PNI Modified = 0.2063). The 2nd: Self-security and social responsibility (PNI Modified = 0.1915). The third: Good interaction and dealing with technological digital threats (PNI Modified = 0.1351). And the 4th: Ethical and law-abiding use of digital technology (PNI Modified = 0.1241).
