Abstract

In this modern era, the Internet of Things (IoT) has become one of the most popular technologies to facilitate effective interactions between things and people to improve life standard. With the increase in the IoT technology, fog computing becomes an attractive paradigm to process data collected from IoT networks. In fog computing technology, sensor nodes data is processed by the intermediate fog nodes along with the servers present in the cloud computing environment. On the other side, due to limited resources, heterogeneity of resources, dynamic nature, and unpredictability of the fog environment, resource management is one of the most difficult issues to address in the fog environment. Instead there are a number of resource management algorithms has been applied by a number of researchers, there is no systematic and comprehensive study is provided related to the fog computing. In this article, we present an organized state-of-art on resource management techniques/algorithms in a fog environment. The detail description about fog computing why it is needed along with the issues is provided. Comparative analysis using different baseline methods in terms of energy consumption, makespan, average turnaround time, delay, and failure rate is presented.
