Abstract

Water covers 78% of the earth’s surface, yet water available for human use is limited. Groundwater is the primary source of drinking water for more than 75% of the population in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. However, because of huge industrialization and improper discharge activities of waste water, ground water is being continuously polluted, thus creating scarcity of drinking water. Hence, in the present study, an attempt is being made to assess the quality of ground water in and around the industrial area of Jeedimetla, Hyderabad by finding various physio-chemical characteristics of ground water such as pH value, turbidity, electrical conductivity, chemical oxygen demand, alkalinity, acidity…. etc., By analyzing the various physio-chemical parameters, we found that ground water from Jeedimetla area can’t be used for drinking purpose. But can be used for other domestic purposes.
