The Role of Materials Technology in Enhancing the Aesthetic Values of Contemporary Buildings

Abstract

The reality of architecture has changed between the end of the twentieth century and the current century through the technological development of materials, which enabled architects to find aesthetic solutions on multiple levels, carried out by certain design elements or organizational orders, which became a source of new ideas implemented with unfamiliar materials and methods, which required architects to know the

possibilities of these materials that were reflected on the appearance of the building in terms of formation (huge blocks, complex shapes, and high rises) or a change in shape, color or movement, visual effects, in addition to taking advantage of environmental influences that helped the digital technologies. All of these factors added to the architecture aesthetics that did not exist previously. The research has tended to build a framework of knowledge that explains the most important aesthetic values ​​granted by materials technology, in addition to several previous studies to determine the research problem, which was represented by (the lack of theoretical studies on the role of materials technology in adding many aesthetic values ​​to contemporary architecture, which did not exist previously and changed the course of architecture). The research hypothesis was determined and the theoretical framework items were extracted and applied to local examples of contemporary architecture. The results of measurement were first for the environmental aesthetic values, then the formal aesthetic values, the digital aesthetic values, and finally the visual aesthetic values, and these aesthetic values depend in their importance on the idea that the architect intends to achieve.
