Abstract

In a system, code clones are copies of identical instances or pieces of source code. This occurs as a result of programmers' use of the copy and paste approach as a rapid way to write source code. A lot of research has been done to avoid the occurrence of code clones in order to regulate the incidence of code clones. As a result, this study conducts a comprehensive assessment of the work done in preventing code clone occurrence using code clone detection and management techniques. The purpose of this study is to offer a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art in code clone detection and management techniques. The research covers conclusions and discussions of different reviews that have been conducted, which led to some proposed future works as an enhancement to existing code clone avoidance techniques.
