Abstract

High Carbon High Chromium (HCHCr) tool steels are using in many mechanical engineering operations i.e. cold rolling mill. D2 steel is also belongs to HCHCr tool steel which extensively using in cluster cold rolling mill. The tool life of the work roll is one of the challenge. Mechanical properties of work roll plays an important role to enhance the tool life of work roll. Where the mechanical properties can be modified with the help of Heat treatment process. Most of the published work provides the processing of D2 tool steel, methods heat treatment process, CNT decomposition, application of coating, tool geometry, cooling methods etc. Usually various mechanical properties are used to define D2 steel like hardness, hot hardness, maximum tensile strength and others. All these properties can be calibrated by metal processing and heat treatment. In Cold Rolling mill rolls must have adequate properties to achieve better yield. Mill operators are using various process parameters according to the hardness and state of the rolled materials. The objective of this review work is to provide various research outcomes of recent work related to performance of the cold rolling mill. This work will help to researchers identify the consequences of mechanical properties and tool life of D2 tool steel.
