Abstract

Majority of mines are explored for valuable mineral resources and routed to dumps (central locations) for handling and there is an immense need to reduce the total distance, cost of travel and decrease hazardous emissions from the transport trucks. This work aims at applying a methodology to locate a central location (dump site) in the presence of elliptical forbidden regions. A further reduced search area (FRSA) technique is used to find out an optimum location.  The MATLAB programming is graphic interactive and enables the user to continuously monitor the state and progress of computation. Mini-sum criteria has been used to find optimum location of a new facility through revised Hook and Jeeves search method .This eventually helps in reducing the distance travelled by trucks/haulage systems, which in turn leads to savings in fuel consumption and  charges expended.
