Does the Entrepreneurial Competencies Differ with the Entrepreneur’s Parental Occupation? - A Study with Special References to the Nascent Entrepreneurs in South India

Abstract

The Growth of the country and the contribution of entrepreneurship on that success are inseparable. Hence the growing economy like India should focus more on entrepreneurial attitude and competencies among the young population.  The perceived capability of the Indian entrepreneurs is high compared to all other countries in the world as per GEM report 2020, which provoked the research question as does the nascent entrepreneurs possess the essential competencies and does it differ with their parental occupation.  This study was conducted with the sample size of 906 nascent entrepreneurs from south India. The convenience sampling technique was adopted and appropriate statistical tools were applied. The findings reveals that there is a difference in entrepreneurial competencies among the nascent entrepreneurs based on their parental occupation. The parents club and the counselling were the recommendations made in this research.
