Factors Influencing Conflict Management Of Community Leaders In Khon Kaen Province, Thailand

Abstract

Conflict is an event that cannot be avoided by any country. Today's social and technological environment is changing rapidly. The condition of limited resources and different cultural traditions also cause different beliefs, faiths, perceptions, attitudes, ideals and values. The communities in each country still face conflicts all the time. It is necessary to improve and develop the potential of the community to keep up with competition and ever-changing technology. Therefore, the objectives of this research were (1) to study conflict management of community leaders in Khon Kaen province, (2) to study factors influencing conflict management of community leaders in Khon Kaen province and 3) to study the guidelines for the development of conflict management of community leaders in Khon Kaen province.

The research results were found that: the conflict management of community leaders in Khon Kaen province was at a moderate level, considered from the most to the least aspect, was as follows: different values, working process and interpersonal communication, respectively.

Factors influencing conflict management of community leaders in Khon Kaen province (in all aspects) were found that the predictive coefficient of the motivation aspect X4, value aspect X3, demand aspectX5 in raw scores (b) was equal to .214, .090 and -.109 respectively. Factors influencing conflict management of community leaders in Khon Kaen province with no statistical significance at the 0.05 level were emotion aspect X1, belief aspect X2. However, all variables together predicted factors influencing conflict management of community leaders in Khon Kaen province with the total number of 66.1%, the errors were at ±.34244 (F = 231.414; p-value = 0.01).

The guidelines for the development of conflict management of community leaders in Khon Kaen province were found that: (1) On different values, it is necessary for community leaders to create a person's or society's views on values ​​that have conflict between ideas and events involving conflict of people in the community and create the correctness of that community by allowing the local community for using the ideas of each person to create a common understanding. (2) On interpersonal communication, it is necessary to support the community and government sectors, and there is a need to create a channel for the community to communicate, understand and exchange ideas, listen to the opinions and accept different perspectives which is a way to reduce distrust, create a compromise and lead to mutual understanding in order to live in the same community peacefully. (3) On working process, there is a need for a change in working paradigms involving people in the community by using the principle of public participation to reduce conflict and inequality in the community, social injustice, so community leaders should focus on the cooperation of the people in the community or the community participated in the determination of decision-making criteria, as well as to verify the collaboration to achieve the same standards in the community.
