Effects Of Perceived Freedom On The Psychological Well-Being Of Participants In Marine Leisure Sports

Abstract

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effects of perceived freedom on the psychological well-being of participants in marine leisure sports.

Methods/Statistical analysis: The subjects of this study were total 432 adults in their 20-50, regularly participating in marine sports. Using the questionnaire, their responses were collected through self-administered method. To verify the normal distribution, validity, and reliability of the questionnaire, the frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and reliability analysis were conducted. In order to understand the correlations and causal relations between variables, the correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed.

Findings: First, the control ability showed positive correlations with all the psychological well-being of participants in marine leisure sports. The needs/immersion and confidence showed positive correlations with self-acceptance, positive interpersonal relationship, purpose of life, personal growth, and autonomy. Second, all the perceived freedom had positive effects on the self-acceptance and positive interpersonal relationship of participants in marine leisure sports. The control ability had positive effects on the purpose of life. The needs/immersion and confidence had positive effects on the environmental mastery. The needs/immersion had positive effects on the personal growth and autonomy.

Improvements/Applications: The conclusion based on such results verified that the perceived freedom would be an important factor having effects on the psychological well-being of participants in marine leisure sports. Therefore, this study implies that the marine sports instructors should work hard to help the participants in marine sports to get perceived freedom to have psychological well-being.
