Abstract

Indian Standard (IS) codes are available for Civil Engineers to design any member of building. Design of a slab can be done using IS-456 code, but exact design process of a slab with openings is not given in any code book, hence it is the need of the hour to have an optimum design for two-way orthotropic slab with a longer side interior corner openings. Therefore, an attempt has been made using modified affine theorem on slabs. Different failure patterns are examined and an algorithm is formulated and implemented to solve the virtual work equations using yield line failure patterns of the slab. From the results optimum load carrying capacity of the slab with longer side corner openings are obtained.
