Design of Wideband Half-Truncated Patch Antenna with Partial Ground Plane
Abstract
The proposed antenna is designed to have a wideband characteristic to operate in frequency bands of 5G mobile communications. The wideband is achieved by truncating almost half of the patch's original dimension and etching the ground plane off to reduce the copper area. The size of the antenna, which uses FR4 substrate, is 58 x 35 x 1.6 mm. The antenna is fabricated based on the simulated design that meets the required parameters. The simulation result shows that about 69 % of fractional bandwidth for VSWR < 2, ranging from 1.82 to 3.7 GHz, is achieved. The measurement results are in good agreement with the simulation data.
