Abstract

Shoulder fillets in shafts or plates are usually the most critical regions in mechanical parts subjected to different stresses. This paper has investigated the stress concentration factors (SCF) Kt for shoulder fillet in round shafts with different sizes of circumferential groove, as well as the location of groove with respect to shoulder fillet. Theoretical studies on SCF that have been carried out by finite element analysis (FEA). The results of SCF were validated by previous work. The results show the size and location of circumferential groove has a great effect on SCF values. The minimum values of that stress concentration factors be achieved by increasing of the ratio of groove size to shaft diameter (rg/d) up to value of 0.1.
