Abstract

There are more problems with the installation of a new centralized power station than the DG installation. This is why in recent years, the Distribution Generation (DG) has gained more importance to fulfill the increased demand of electrical energy in a distributed system. The location and size of this DG have a significant impact on the distribution system, to have positive effects the DG must be installed at proper place with the correct size. This paper presents the study with aim to determine the optimal location and size of distributed generation units in a existing radial distribution system. The main goal is minimize the distribution network power loss. The impacts of DG, considering different voltage dependent load models, on location and sizing of DG are presented by considering different consumers as residential, commercial and industrial for load modeling. This optimization problem has been solved by Ant Lion Optimization (ALO). This algorithm has been executed on existing radial distribution system. Results obtained shows that with different load model have considerable effect while determining of the optimum location and sizing of DGs. Also, with optimum size and location of DGs installation has considerable reduction in power loss and improved voltage profileof distribution system.
